Do you need to be introduced to power tools-would you like to know more about metal lathes, drill presses, milling machines, band saws, shears/brakes and more? Here’s your chance to learn about industrial-grade tools and machines, and how to employ safe work practices, as well as get ideas for what you might like to make at BuildMore Workshop with your membership.

This class will provide advice on keeping your work area safe, proper tool use, good work habits, and electrical safety. This training course will demonstrate how accidents can be significantly reduced by applying and following good general safety rules. The completion of this class may entitle members use of all basic metal machines discussed in the class.

Introduction to Enamelware Jewelry--Session One (Sat, June 01, 2013)

An ancient method for creating shiny, colorful accent pieces for jewelry and embellishment, enameling is exciting. You'll be cutting metal foundation pieces, using a roll former or hand edging techniques, drilling with a drill press, and using a small digital kiln to create unique metalworking pieces that can be incorporated into your OOAK designs.

This class meets in two sessions: 1:00-3:30 on June 1st and June 8th. Instructor: Pat Tanguay.

Materials fee: $25.00

DIY Basketry Supplies (Sun, June 02, 2013)

Whether you are wanting to increase the quality of your basket supplies, or wanting to grow into the next level of turning your basketry into sculpture that requires stronger and wider materials, this demonstration (yes, you'll get some samples) shows you how easy it would be to get a BuildMore membership and start slicing your own wide splint, make basket handles, foundation rounds, exotic-wood embellishments, and other supplies.

Taught by Valerie Hibbard, M.A.ed., 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday May 25th.

Instructional/samples fee $18.00.

Turned Poplar Lamp--Session One (Thu, June 13, 2013)

We have the block glued, so come in and prep it on the table saw, turn it on the lathe, sand it and then add the hardware to make it a finished lamp you take home. Our excellent instructor Tim will be there with you every step of the way, you'll have a lovely working finished lamp at the end of the second class, drilled, lamp wiring all done, ready to take home. (There will be an option for any students wanting to set up an additional session with Tim to make a matching lampshade).

Here at BuildMore Workshop, we've had a year of growth and success, so we're celebrating with our members and community on June 15th, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the building and grounds of the WorkShop. There's a car show with trophies we're going to make on-site during the show (so we can let everyone see how a 4' by 8' CNC router works), a DJ with music, refreshments, and there's a rumor there might be some shop overstock for sale. Sketchbook Basics Crash Course (Tue, June 18, 2013)

Do you find yourself doodling while on the phone? drawing on the back of restaurant placemats? Here's the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to have the basics laid out, how to draw, what to draw, types of drawing materials, our instructor Valerie Hibbard will fill you up with all this information and a stack of handouts to get you started on your independent study. Class is divided between lecture (75%) and practice (25%) and soon you'll be out the door with your new skills and a headful of ideas.

6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th. $38.00 includes instructional fee, handouts, and materials to use during session.

This is a fine opportunity for children 10 and up, to work with wood and create a project in a one-session class to learn more about how an artist can create positive and negative spaces. Students leave with a finished wall or countertop art piece, painted and ready for display at home or office.

Free Form Wire Sculpture (Sat, July 27, 2013)

As much about process as about product, this is an opportunity to work with a local artist in a easy, no-rules format. After seeing some examples of sculptures and 3D objects, students will be encouraged to help themselves from a pile of materials, creating unique and worry-free pieces that are both expressive and exciting. In addition to several kinds of wire, there will be cordage, wood strips, found objects, drilled bits of wood, all sorts of materials to explore. Students will leave with finished works ready to hang up or set out to display when the get home, as well as handouts with sculpture terms and local resources.
