Are you interested in the Arduino series of microcontrollers, the Maker Movement, or home automation but don't know where to begin? Bought an Arduino and have never used it due to intimidation or maybe you just don't know what you'd do with it? This is an intro to Arduino class, beginning with an overview of the Arduino Uno and IDE development environment and hands-on circuit building and coding.

Arduino is an open-source programmable controller that can sense the environment by receiving inputs from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other devices. It’s perfect for any inventor, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Level: Beginner, Noob, "What's a Microcontroller?

Format:
Learn
At your own pace with hands-on building of circuits and code. Lecture/presentation portion of class will be under 15 minutes, and then you're off on your way building and controlling electronics. Assistance will be provided as needed and will include demonstration and explanation of operation as needed or requested.

Topics:

  • Installation and Configuration of IDE
  • Arduino Pinout (how not to blow it up)
  • Sketches & Examples
  • Digital & Analog
  • Breadboarding
  • Control of LED(s) through software
  • Pulse Width Modulation & Voltage regulators

What to Bring:

  1. Arduino Uno R3 required - $35 will be added to class fee if you don't have one already.
  2. Laptop w/ Arduino IDE installed link here: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
  3. Note taking materials, as desired
  4. We will provide all the small electronic components needed for the class.

Class and Lab Fees:

  • Cost for Non Members:$45 (you bring own Arduino) or $80 (we provide the Arduino)
  • Cost Current Members: $35 (you bring own Arduino) or $70 (we provide the Arduino)
  • Add a guest for $40
